Toshokan Sensou 9: Revolutionary Girl Iku
Posted by issa-sa under Crack, Spring 2008, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Toshokan Sensou
Once upon a time, long long ago, there was a little princess, and she was very sad for her parents had died favourite novel had been taken away from her. Before the princess appeared a traveling prince riding upon wearing a white horse uniform. He had a regal bearing and a kind smile.
The prince wrapped the princess in a rose chamomile-scented embrace and gently wiped the tears from her eyes. “Little one,” he said, “who bears up alone in such deep sorrow. Never lose that strength or nobility, even when you grow up. I give return you this ring novel to remember this day. We will meet again. This ring book will lead you to me one day.”
This was all well and good, but so impressed was she by him that the princess vowed to be a prince join the Library Task Force herself one day!
But was that really such a good idea…?
If you didn’t get it, watch Utena already, damnit!
So quite a couple of people seemed to like the last crack post on Toshokan Sensou… So here’s another one! (Don’t expect it to be as funny as the last one, if at all):
“Eh, erm… See I wrote you this letter and all, and I really really hope you accept this…”
“Oi, oi, woman, we’ve already passed that stage!” (see last episode’s omake)
Unbeknownst to Iku of course, Doujou has been secretly writing a bunch of mushy letters to his sweet love that he never found the balls to send.
Komaki: “This wouldn’t have happened if you watched Junjou Romantica with me like I asked…”
Later that night…
“Hold it right there, what the hell do you think you’re doing stalking about the girl’s dorm in the middle of the night???”
“Oi, Oi, it’s just me, you mountain ape! Have you forgotten that we were supposed to meet for more private tutoring *coughs* ???”
“Oh crap, totally forgot OTL”
“Our lame high-school-anime-like antics and midnight rendezvous-ing just isn’t working out… There’s only one way to solve this problem!“
“I’m thinking Iceland for our honeymoon”
(Author’s note: I’ve always wanted to go myself… Randall promised to take me there on ours =P)
Iku: “But what about the kids?”
“We’ll let Shibasaki handle them. I’m sure she has the time between sleeping with random men to get what she wants”
Shibasaki: “I’ll do it for free desserts of course!”
“Eh, can we really trust that power-crazed woman?”
“Don’t worry, we all know she’s smart enough to pass the job to Tezuka and take all the credit herself”
Face it Tezuka, you’ve become their bitch ;P
The End. (Till the next episode.)
The dialogue was way easier to understand this time - and the Japanese subtitles were sort of in the way (wonder what Otaking would make of them), but they made it a hell lot easier to check the dialogue whenever I had to. Anything else that needed clearing up I did when I watched the episode a 3rd time with my moonspeak tutor (I make the poor guy watch this show every week now XD) Since I’m nice free here’s a short summary of key points for those who might want it (take note it’s not fully accurate, I mean it can’t be, or wouldn’t still be struggling in my Japanese tests and all…)
Summary: show
(edit: Hey, if you combine biankita’s summary and mine, you get an almost perfect summary for this episode! Okay, maybe you should just read hers for better details :P)
Like Komaki points out this episode, these two are so alike it’s hard not to think they’re made for each other XD
Thoughts: AWESOME episode (as always =P) Especially in the Doujou X Iku front and the Shibasaki Asako is Sawashiro Miyuki’s best role this season aspect (Okay, so it probably takes more aspect to voice/sing Shinkurou, but he’s still one episode away from redeeming himself in Kure-nai. Till then, he ranks lower than that woman in 20 Faces whose name eludes me). Total LOL/squeal/facepalm/SQUEALS!! at all the Iku avoiding Doujou moments (and now I realize, Iku has much in common with Utena after all), and how they subsequently ‘make up’ (lulz at how they implemented the “bishounen sparkly music’ when Iku looked Doujou’s way while she was supposed to be taking notes XD). I’ll stop gushing now since this post is getting tl;dr and I’m hungry as hell right now =P

ahahaha… i love this summary! and you’re so lucky to have tutor… i had to DL the japanese subs and work on it word for word in the dictionary (but only for the last part), but thankfull ocha! released the script because they’re haveing delays with the subbed epissode.
i’ve been fangurling since friday! ^_^

Yea, the dialogue this time only had a few points where it was really necessary to look up in the dictionary (of course translating for viewer purposes and watching and understanding for yourself is 2 different things, which is why I guess subs are taking some time.) Though rather than actually using my tutor as a personal dictionary, I was just trying to convert him into a ToshoSensou fan

By the way, I’m very glad Kasahara didn’t tell Dojo that she already knew that he was her Prince Charming. I would have been very disappointed if she did because that would mean that succeeding episode would be filled with cheese and I would be really pissed.

The Utena reference was brilliant! Thanks for another funny Toshokan post.

Utena has been in my watch list for God knows how long now lolz. I have to stop thinking of whether to watch it or not and just watch it (like I did with Greenwood)! XD
I’ve been gushing all over this episode as I was watching it, in the office… had to suppress my fangurl scream lol.

@Rokku: I hope you mean BOTH Toshokan Sensou and Utena
@Scou7: As much as Iku and Utena have the Prince thing in common (casual spoiler: hopefully they, don’t share too similar fates with said Princes), the reference I tried to make kind of came out a little forced (well, what else is new, lol)
@usagijen: Don’t blame you girl, it took me a while to get to Utena AND THEN finish it myself, but I really felt it was worth it, despite my shallow mind hardly scratching the surface of what the show may or may not have offered.
Though I watch anime in my room, it’s usually late at night so my fangurl screams would wake up the entire floor since the walls are so bloody thin here!

@biankita
I agree with you on that respect. When Iku mentioned that she was no longer going to chase after her Ouji-sama, at first I was thinking that Doujou would be a bit disheartened that he’d no longer be the one she’s after, but the rest of her statement afterwards proved to be consoling.
I’m enjoying the show really, and my fanboying just seems to have moved up a notch. Now I wonder where the both of them would take their “relationship”(?) seeing as they have military superior-subordinate ties and as Doujou doesn’t seem to me to be the romantically expressive type. *nudge nudge Iku!*

Hmmm…well…I suppose the novel readers might know the real answer (no thank you, you don’t need to tell me), but I don’t think Dojo was the Prince Charming from six years ago. He would have been too young and probably too low-ranking to stop the Media Improvement Brigade. Plus, you’d think he would have remembered the incident the first time he heard about it from Kasahara?
Anyways, with omake as good as this, I think the doujins are probably not far behind. *hint hint* :p

why does the 2nd pic reminds me of suzaku and euphie?
