In which I hand out hastily thought out awards to the shows I watched this year to break the long drought between posts (and so that I have an excuse to not post anything until at least a month into next year =P). So without further ado:

Most Scrumptious Show: Ristorante Paradiso

Best Half-Comedy: Seitokai no Ichizon – Not perhaps the best year for comedies. At the very least Seitokai no Ichizon made me laugh for at least half every episode before they try to bring the show into a character development phase which… is rather nyeh.

Best Full-Comedy: Maria Holic

Best use of 5 minutes each week: Axis Power Hetalia

Best show whose hype I could follow at the time: Eden of the East

Best Life Sliced: Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou

Most “Refreshing”: Kimi ni Todoke

Smallest Impact : Sora no Manimani – Why can’t I remember watching you???

Best sequel: Darker Than Black – Ryuusei no Gemini

Best improved sequel: White Album 2 – Although Shin Ai >>>>> Mugen, the 2nd season of WA was waaaaaayyyy more watchable than the first, though most people would find that too little too late. The end does explain why Touya was such a douchey-bagey player, though my remaining qualm is why every single female in his sight would fall for his failness in the first place, let alone all of them at once -_-”

Best turned into a yaoi OVA: Endless Eight

Most Forgettable Sequel: Minami-ke Oka-something – The only thing I seem to remember from this is the curry song)

Sequel I ended up caring the Least for: Maria-sama ga Miteru Something Season – Touka sucks, period

‘Best’ Show I DIDN’T Watch: Bakemonogatari. And I’m only arbitrarily giving this award out to the one show that everyone else yapped about this year that I only watched 4 eps of and then just completely forgot to watch after that. *runs from hoardes of stapler wielding fans*

‘Best’ Show I Wish I DIDN’T Watch: K-ON + Haruhi. Guess who my least favourite studio is this year? =P

Best Overall Show: Skip to the end

Random extras:

Specials:

Dumbest Special Episodes: Limited Girl (Hatsukoi Limited) -_-”

Best Yaoi DVD Special: Kannagi XD

Couplings:

Best “Pure Pure” Couple: Koume X Saburo (Taishou Yakyuu Musume) – I’m probably one of the few people who enjoyed Taishou Yakyuu Musume more once they took it out of pseudo-yuri territory into “LOL, this is probably how my grandma and grandpa met”

Most Distracting Potential BL Coupling: Kou X Azuma (Cross Game) – No, I did not watch Sengoku Basara. I’ve recently flipped from Kou to Azuma as favourite uke seme male character in this show, btw ;P

Most Distracting (for all the wrong reasons) Potential Yuri Coupling: Saki X Nodoka (Saki)

♂:

Male Character with the Largest Certain Body Part: Klaus (Maiden Rose). Don’t make me repost a screenshot :P

Best Use of That Certain Body Part by a Male Character: You Know Who, Eden of The East ;P

Worst Male ‘Lead’ : Battle (Umineko ni Naku Koro ni) - I suppose in the game the male lead is just a stand in for the player who presumably likes having his whooped in the ass by a witch in an endless game only to be aided by the other female characters in the game in turn (the ex-SaiMoe winner ripoff? The imouto you never knew you had? Oh what more could you ask for?). In anime form, that kind of wish-fulfillment is just sad to watch.

Ugliest Male Cast: Hatsukoi Limited – At least they have hearts of… bronze?

Worst Male Cast: Miracle Train - Even the mysterious masked conductor turned out to be a mind-wiping gay pR0n director… not.

♀:

Best show aimed at little girls: Yumeiro Patissiere – Cake pR0n aside, there’s something to be said about a show aimed at little girls to work their asses in order to achieve their fluffy dreams.

Best Female Cast: Maria Holic – How do you expect to beat Best Maid and Best God?

Speaking of Maria Holic:

Laziest PV: Hanaji – I guess it’s the gap between this and the actual nose-bleed-worthy OP.

Boys and Girls/ Cats and Dogs:

Best Shota: July (DtB 2)

Best ‘Loli’: Momiji (Cross Game) – though by the end of the series she’ll probably revoke that loli status XD Even as just a side character Momiji is one of the standouts in an already standout cast of characters despite her age, thanks to that near-omnipotent insightful-ness that runs in her family/neighbourhood. (Also, Best Ekaki Uta – Drawing Song :D )

Best Dog: Tokugawa (Miracle Train) – Make that also the best character in the show -_-”

Best Cat: Nyanko-Sensei (Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou). Was about to give this one to Nomo from Cross Game but my year’s purchases from Animate said otherwise -_-”

Honorary Mention: Mao (DtB2) for being the best flying squirrel one could hope to find in anime =P

Laugh XD:

Best Laugh: Kiyori (Sasameki Koto) – Wah-Ha-HA!

Bonus: Best Trap show

Cry T_T:

‘Best’ Expected Death: show

‘Best’ Unexpected Death: show

And finally…

‘Best’ Overall Show of 2009:

Cross Game -Like j1m0ne, I don’t think I’ll wait till the next year or the next decade to decide that Cross Game is the best show for me this year, by then I’ll just remove the safety inverted commas in the award :P Perhaps what I like best is how the characters are sensible with themselves and their emotions and yet still remain very human. Given the same circumstances any other show these days will seem to have its characters fly into some emo teary whiny rage and have dumb gaps in logic in their actions just for the sake of shock factor/drama, Cross Game manages to avoid that and still deliver an entertaining and solid story, something I’m mostly confidant will continue on to the end.

And that’s it for 2009! See you all next year – now if you excuse me I’ve got the last day of the year to spend waiting for Nana to appear on Kohaku tonight *WHEEEEEEE* XD
