So I finally started watching K-ON…

Pity it’s not.
ZOMGWTFMOEEEEEEEORZBBQWINBESTSHOWTHISSEASONMIOMIOMIOMIOFAPFAPFAP
or something.
Just watched 2 episodes of the show (cos I ran out of shows o watch on my 2 show watchlist this season*sigh*). Neither Mio nor the “Don’t Say Lazy” (I don’t even remember the OP) made me go gaga in the end, and every moe mode they could condense into the main characters just didn’t work for me (Off the top of my head the so-called ‘moe modes’ here included a supposedly endearing shyness, an unbeatable cheerfulness, naivenes due to a rich upbringing, and an incurable retardedness which makes me want to gag and shoot something – preferably the source of sad retardedness. And if anyone wants to bring up the “But what is ‘moe’?” question up, I’m not going to even try going into that)
But that’s just me being anti-moe, no use denying it ;P (On the other hand, if you actually bother looking through the archives of this blog, you’d find out that I am rather moe for OoFuri’s Mihashi Ren and old-man-rape , so that makes me a hypocrite and bizzare at the same time -_-”) So in an effort to be fair and square (and to post something), here are some of K-ON’s plus points:
- No tsundere character (Hence no annoying tsundere character voiced by Kugimiya Rie nor has purple hair! *phew*)
- The naive rich girl does not have humongous boobs nor pink hair *phew again*
- No humongous boobs in sight, hence no stupid jokes revolving humongous boobs( And no, I haven’t watched Queen’s Blade nor am I planning to since Saki was bad enough in the useless lumps of fat departme- where was I?)
- Abundance of dessert (plus plus points
) - Slice-of-life-ish vibes and accepable character interactions despite the stereotypically moe-pandering characters
- Jokes are passable (no LOL moments, but nothing made me groan) – doesn’t try to be over-the-top nor too in your face (except Krauser -see below- but since it’s Krauser all is forgiven XD)
- Thankfully no reccuring BGM to follow every punchline
- i.e. almost everything I didn’t like about Lucky Star isn’t in K-ON. They actually managed to pull off the girls sitting around doing nothing but eat sweets thing this time around!
- If there was more cake, this is where I would deliberately repeat the abundance of dessert line in a sad attempt to be funny.
- Beats doing Biology homework.
Minus points:
- Yea yea, stereotypical moe blob characters, *yawns*. Was already expecting this, and it’s nothing new in anime especially with the studio involved, but I think it’s hitting harder when I’m actually interacting with RL Japanese for a change (*gasp!* So much for living the hikkikomori life. At least I won’t have to be worried about being bombed by random missiles in the new future *hinthintEden*) and the gap between 3D reality and the escapist pandering being offered here in 2D does grate a bit more than it used to.
- Jokes starting to rely a lot on said character stereotypes which do nothing for me.

- Somebody kill Yui. Preferably Krauser.
Overall, K-ON gets the average pass mark from my first impression, and unless I find something better to fit in as the 3rd show on my sadly sparse watchlist this season (God, where did all my free time go????), I’ll probably slot in K-ON to watch at the start of each week (since Eden of the East, Ristorante Paradiso and America’s Next op Model ORZ receive first priorities and come out later in the week). Any other reccomendations?
(For reference, I’ve only watched the following shows this season: Eden of the East (actually worth the hype and praise unlike K-ON) > Ristorante Paradiso (cos oyaji rape = hawt XD) > K-ON > Saki (Mahjong YES, Boobs and Kugimiya Rie NO) >>>>>>> Hanasakeru Seishounen (LOOOOOOL Hinano’s summary. Unfortunately I cannot afford the brain-cells it would cost to watch this trashy cheese/cheesy trash?) )

They should cancel this show and replace it with DMC Season II (though I’d say that about any show).

Somebody kill Yui. Preferably Krauser.
People like Yui because they share the same puni puni moe kyun Mio fetish.
So, you want to kill Yui? I am Yui!

@Cokematic: The only thing worse than the use of retarded to describe things people don’t like is retarded moe. That and if Gordon Ramsey started a show called The R Word.
@Baka-Raptor: At least we get another Hetalia Axis Powers season…
@issa-sa: K-ON! is BORING. Apart from the OP and ED there is nothing going for it, it is artistically dead on arrival.

@Cokematic: NOOOO, MY REMAINING BRAIN CELLSSSSS
@Baka-Raptor: There are other shows I’d rather have replaced with more DMC than this one currently, but it would still help of course =P
@Roy Mustang: I’m wondering which would sound more blasphemous to all of ‘you’ right now: that I still hate Yui and her ‘retard moe’ – or thta I’ve yet to watch an episode of Full Metal Alchemist, new or old. (somewhere out there, an otaku has died -_-”)
@NewGeekPhilosopher: Yea, take away the OP, ED, and err, Mio (!!) and suddenly no one’s going to care about K-ON cos it’s really quite an uninspiring and *gasp* dare I say it – BORING – show underneath. Funnily enough though, I actually like the low calorie and safeness of that underneath layer, the whole icing on the cake that is the OP, ED and moe crap (not forgetting the KyoAni glaze *ack*) is too sickly sweet for my liking AT ALL.

Yui is not only annoying, but also retarded. She’s annoying and retarded.
Kugimiya Rie is amazing.
