Sudden Sporadic Thoughts on Code Geass

Quiz time: How many characters in this image are still alive? How many will still be alive at the end of the show? How manye of them shouldn’t still be alive? (Perhaps more importantly, which one of these questions interests you more -_-”)
So I just realized (okay I’ve realized for a while now) that I’ve not actually posted anything directly anime-related in… God it’s been that long?? Guess this season sucks after all!
So to put this blog back into the anime ranting groove (I’m sure you’re all tired of my weeaboo summer adventures for now. Be thankful I never got round to posting about “The Beach Episode of Tondemo Nothing with Issa-sa : Fanservice not Included!“), here’s a random rant on a show that EVERYONE’s been crazy about since last year, but I’ve not been giving much attention here at Tondemo Nothing!- everyone’s favourite trainwreck, Code Geass!
(Oh and if you’re reading a Code Geass post without expecting spoilers… You’re disillusioned my friend)
Apparently I’ll make some people angry by mislabelling the show with a term that has ‘wreck’ in it. Boo-hoo
Lest you start making assumptions about the nature of this post, I’ll just state flat out that neither am I going to bash Code Geass for being or not being a Sunrise trainwreck, nor am I going to start rambling incoherently about how awesomely awesomesauce it is. I’m sure if I gave it some thought, I’ll probably learn to see actual merits of the show’s engrossing(?) mix of epic winfail storytelling (I didn’t just type that with a straight face on…) and a nauseating amount of pandering elements for just about anyone who wants to be pandered to here. That or Ifind that it’s really just a pile of time-wasting excuse for a story and CLAMP artwork. *shrugs*
Here’s the deal, though Code Geass entertains the hell out of me every week with its outlandish outlandishness (when in doubt, repeat words to sounds like an idiot smart) it really makes no difference to me whether this show exists or not – yes it’s all good fun and all to watch, but if I were to suddenly stop watching it and continue on with ‘life’ (i.e. watching other shows but this one), the only thing I’ll actually feel like I’m missing would be the lulz reaction posts from every other blogger out there about the latest WTF episode.
Am I just tired of this show? Definitely not (okay maybe just a little. I mean, who do they have left to kill now?). But does it leave me wanting more each week? Strangely, not either. Perhaps because every episode is already a condensed trainwreck upon itself dose of sheer senseless entertainment, I really don’t appreciate the ‘continuity’ of the series (wait, someone remind me was there any to begin with?). Or maybe I just can’t ‘appreciate’ a show I watch with my brain turned off anymore…
That and there seems to be a tendency for fans to start pairing Lulu (I don’t bother remembering how to spell his real name) up with any of the possible haremettes he has under his cape (If I’m not allowed to call it a trainwreck, can I at least use ‘bizzaro harem’?) and then getting pissy when said character doesn’t get enough screentime (because there’s so many of them!). Again, Lulu can end up with C.C./Kallen/Suzaku/Orange/Charles/Rollo’s dead body (oops) for all I care, so long as the show stays WTFBBQ lulz-worthy entertaining enough till the end. That and so long as show
OMG, I actually cared more about Rollo dying than Shirley. Using the word ‘care’ loosely of course.
Anyways, tl;dr, point is, Code Geass, I still love you and all (really, I do! I think), but sorry, you haven’t exactly turned me into the rabid fanboy/fangirl nearly everyone else I know who watches this show is.

I actually want Kallen to end up with Suzaku lol… really! I’m having a feeling of Athrun-Cagali from them but I think it’s kinda impossible with what’s happening now lol. If not, Suzaku can also end up with Gino for my fangirl dreams but yeah, I may be dreaming… LOL!!!
Lelouch could live happily ever dead after with CC lol j/k!!! Actually I don’t want CC to die, nor Kallen… It’s ok for Lulu… haha… SO that makes CC x Kallen at the end O_O? Arrgh… I’m going crazy XD…August 21, 2008 @ 10:05 pm
Spoiler: Everyone dies.

Spoilers: They’ll all end up in Jupiter.

Spoiler: I disagree with a few things here and there, but you’re free to think whatever you want, aren’t you?

just watch out, I speak with the wisdom of experience for being the second person forcibly violated for using the T-word to describe Geass. But that’s how it is. I don’t think it’s good, I don’t think it’s bad either, but as we say here in texas, it sure is a freaking hoot to watch.
By the way, am I the only person on the internet without spam from this geass website bullshit? I’m starting to feel left out…

spoiler: everyone who doesn’t end up in Jupiter dies.
you and i will miss the exact same thing when this show ends – the never ending entertainment with posts from the that boys and shin. i don’t love it or dislike it. but i have to admit watching it is 24 minutes of fun… that is… making fun of it. it fills a certain gap of comedy that’s missing with the rest of the show i’m watching.
@otou-san: i’m left out too. not that i’m complaining though.

lol watch Sunrise bring em’ all back from the dead *cough* orange-kun *cough*
But hey, if it is
WTFBBQ lulz-worthyentertaining then its doing its job, no?August 22, 2008 @ 5:10 am
I feel empty if I don’t have my weekly dosage of WTF-Geass-ness…
August 22, 2008 @ 8:56 pm
@kanzeon: I’m starting to wish all the characters end up alone because they find out they can’t reproduce thanks to FREIYA
@C.I. & Shin: So everyone dies, goes to Jupiter, and we find out this entire series was really a prelude to Martian Successor Nadesico?
@XXX: I should copy and paste that comment on every single blog post I read from now on.
@otou-san: A freakin hoot indeed. Only I used to think I couldn’t survive without freakin hoots to watch, but not so much now…
@biankita: To me, Code Geass fills in the blank (in comedy) that it itself created. Nothing will ever be able to fill it again, so I think it’s best I ignore it once the show ends (if the fans ever let it happen)
@Cokematic: It’s doing its job all right – I can’t imagine anything else but “BE WTFBBQ LULZWORTHY ENTERTAINING” to be on a job description for Code Geass. At least it should come above “Sell doujins/DVDs”.
@53RG10: And I think that’s the point I wanted to make. There are certainly series I enjoy to the point of feeling empty when they end – Geass isn’t going to be one of them (May the final few episodes make me stuff those words back in my mouth).
August 22, 2008 @ 11:25 pm
I think you want the word ‘bizzarem’.
August 25, 2008 @ 3:02 pm
@Issa-sa: No, sounds more like a prelude to another chapter in Scientology.
August 26, 2008 @ 4:26 am
Code Geass is deep okay?

Just finished watching the series, and it was great. So of course I wanted some feedback checking for miniscule/astronomical details I overlooked—none found here of course. Thanks for the waisted read, please write something worth writing about—moreover rambling incoherently LIKE YOU PROMISED ME YOU WOULDN’T WHEN I FIRST STARTED READING DAMNIT! Also everyone doesn’t die you fool, only Lelouch and Rolo die in the end(At least from that picture which the questions were placed.) P.S.S. So yeah definitely add something to what has already been seen and known, otherwise it’s not really a review, but a poorly written list. )=

@Lisst: Sorry to have mislead you, but I only promised not to ramble incoherently about “how awesomely awesomesauce” Code Geass is – because frankly, to me at least, it’s not. I just rambled incoherently about how Code Geass was an enjoyable enough in all it’s over-the-top-ness yet did not reduce me to a crazed fan-person like at least half the people I know who watched it *shrugs* (Ironically, I did label the post under “Rambles and Half-lies” -_-”)
