Mmm… Hungry for some furries?

Two more first episodes down. What verdict awaits our ‘heroes’ at the end of this post?? (Hopefully it’s more exciting than what these episodes had to offer…)

You just can’t beat DragoBleaPiece

I was sortof/kindof (i.e. not really, but what the heck) looking forward to World Destruction since… Why again? Oh, it’s by Production I.G. despite looking suspiciously like something GONZO (see screenshot below) or BEE Train might do… And heck, it’s called World Destruction, it’s either gonna be awesome or just a cheesy run-of-the-mill RPG game adaptation, right?

Well my thoughts for the first half of the episode was that “It’s not nearly as bad as Hinano said“, which isn’t a good thing since she said it was “so bad it’s good” which is about the only kind of ‘bad’ worth watching, no? It wasn’t even bad really, just passably average, which is bad because that would make it forgettable… *urgh* giving myself a bad (*groans*) headache here… Another thing I couldn’t help thinking was that the show may just be better off as the game (in RPGs I’m more willing to excuse meh stories since I’m too busy slaying monsters or something), the commercial for said game appearing all over the raw not helping…

My humps, my humps, my lovely ‘lady’ lumps?

Well I kinda left the episode for a while and went off to play some mahjong before coming back to finish the rest of it off. I don’t know what mahjong may or may not have done with it, but the second half was much more enjoyable than just ‘passable’. Perhaps that nasty ‘SRS BSNSS’ judgemental side of me fell asleep since it was getting late =P

Overall that first episode of World Destruction turned out to be rather fun, even if it wasn’t anything earth-shattering (har har). On the plus side, generic looking adventure like setting has that obligatory ‘original’ twist (destroying the furry world instead of saving it? I’m in!), there’s Miyano Mamoru and Sakamoto Maaya voicing the main characters (okay, maybe it’s not such a strong season after all if I’m watching shows mostly for their seiyuu -_-”) and yea, ‘Bonta-kun‘:

If only we had Saito Chiwa voicing ‘Bonta-kun’, I’d be sure to watch this…

Yes Lina, you have to tell all of us who only started watching anime post-2000

Now Slayers Revolution I was “actually” looking forward to because I’m an old fart such a fan of the franchise having watched all the previous seasons and having almost all of Hayashibara Megumi’s songs as Lina Inverse in my playlist… is again, what I’d like to say, but truth is I’ve only watched a handful of episodes from the first season during a brief stint an anime club (but somehow, I seem to have had a ton of Slayers songs even before that), which is nothing in the grand scheme of the franchise, I suppose.

But I have to say I enjoyed watching the original Slayers (as little of it as I saw) because it was ‘fun’ (and nasty SRS BSNSS side was probably not present at the time). Especially how the characters were all too ready to poke fun at each other :P Slayers Revolution seems to be bringing that back – I liked all the backhanded ‘compliments’ everyone was giving the infamous Lina Inverse throughout the episode XD And thankfully it didn’t fully alienate those who haven’t gotten round to watching all them previous seasons, while still retaining that ‘good old 90s feel’ (despite the somewhat updated visuals, the moment the OP started playing, I began to question if this was still Summer 2008 over here…).

Oh yea, and this new(?) character(?) looks suspiciously like Shaymin’s Sky form from the upcoming Pokemon game:

I dunno, kinda prefer Bonta-kun =P

Anyways, do World Destruction and Slayers Revolution have what it takes to earn that coveted spot on my Summer 2008 watchlist??? *drumrolls.. snorts* The answer: I still don’t know, neither of the two really called out to me like the previous 2 did, but they seem entertaining enough (*yawns* yea, I make such a convincing argument for myself). Although Dragon Slave will probably wipe the floor with that Dragon Ball orb thing in World Destruction that’ll supposedly destroy said world, I’m concerned that not watching all them previous seasons of Slayers will come back and bite me later on in Revolution. Oh well, I’ll toss them in the ‘Wild Card’ bin and wait till next ‘Miyano Monday’ to see if I’m free enough to watch the next episodes…
