Episode 4's out, and they're breaking out the drama bat. It's not fully BL, but they sure love to play with the stereotypes. Also, it looks like the other reason Chikage shows up in this show has become apparent, by Episode 4. Just watch the reactions of the girls when they see mannerly men speaking in stereo; we haven't seen reactions from women like this since Ouran Host Club's Hikaru and Kaoru's act.

issa-sa: I think it's more there's that slapstick humor, as well as the lack of explicit yaoi (think Junjou Romantica) that it has going for it, as well as a drama which flows more naturally due to Tachibana's past.

Jacob: Yes, there's a bit of manservice for the girls (see Episode 4)... but it's more cake-pr0n. Man, but there's a lot of cake-pr0n...

OGT: Look at Episode 4. The girls mooning over two handsome men, dressed identically, being courteous and servile do the trick. I think that's Tachibana's method of attracting women as well.. and damn if it doesn't work.

Shin: Is there a reason you have Kagami blushing over a BL doujin of Sosuke and Gauron, or is it just a happy coincidence?

@issa-sa: Well, I started watching Antique Bakery simply to shove myself right into the forefront of the BL thing. The fact that I personally would rather my cake porn involve more girls is fairly irrelevant; when I make my final evaluation of the series (whenever that is) I'm going to shove my (probably totally unjustified) uncomfortableness into a different corner and judge it on its own merits. I'm sure some GLBT organization is preparing some kind of strike assault on my house as I type this.

That said, I don't see me getting as into the relationships of Antique Bakery as I am into the ones in Itazura na Kiss, but I can certainly appreciate them on a less id level (perhaps a superego level? Freud doesn't tell me how to answer this!).

(do you see now why I have trouble talking about this?)

Noo~ I wasn't going to watch this... but now that I heard Miyano Mamoru-kun's voice was in it, I don't know what to do... T-T
But the cake in that last pic does look really tasty.

@usagijen: The episode inspired me to have more cake! (Okay, I had to make do with cheesecake ice-cream, but that's good too ;D)

@biankita: It wouldn't be dry if it were in my mouth... (Minds out of gutters please)

@Jacob Martin: Who wouldn't? XD (blissmo maybe...)

@Setsuna-san: So's my entire life ;P

@EvilDevil: If show can give me a negative image of desserts, I'm not watching it.

@Shin: And I was just thinking of dropping by Mr Donuts...

@OGT: As far as I can see, at least half the comments here are by guys (!) so you should feel safe here... Or CAN you... ;P
Though the story seems aimed squarely at the female market, it's nice to see that it's getting attention from the likes of the more open minded males as well as 'people who wouldn't touch anything ghey with a 10 mile stick'.
(Though it sounds like you want to see a giant cake in Nodame Cantabile more than anything XD)

I am trying to decide if I am the first male respondent on this post or not (because who knows if the person calling themselves Jacob Martin is not actually called Jacob Martin in real life!), but as I actually sat down and watched the series, I felt compelled to comment (belatedly).

I actually rather liked it, to be honest. I didn't make a post about it lest I risk the wrath of the fangirls inadvertently, but even though I was uncomfortable during all the "gay bits," I simply told myself "well, this is how a non-yuri-liking girl feels like when they watch an episode of Simoun/Marimite/Onii-sama e.../etc.", because, well, I can't really deny girls their man-love if I can't deny me my girl-love (or deny them, because there's a lot of yaoi/yuri crossover, apparently). That's just hypocritical.

It was funny when appropriate, it was amusing to see guys get cutesy wacky facial expressions (the exaggerated style of expressions in Antique Bakery are awesome and I demand a female character to make one, so I can feel better), and I flipped out when I heard the pipe organ. All it needs now is a harpsichord and a giant cake and I'll be set.
