Quiz time: How many characters in this image are still alive? How many will still be alive at the end of the show? How manye of them shouldn’t still be alive? (Perhaps more importantly, which one of these questions interests you more -_-”)

So I just realized (okay I’ve realized for a while now) that I’ve not actually posted anything directly anime-related in… God it’s been that long?? Guess this season sucks after all!

So to put this blog back into the anime ranting groove (I’m sure you’re all tired of my weeaboo summer adventures for now. Be thankful I never got round to posting about “The Beach Episode of Tondemo Nothing with Issa-sa : Fanservice not Included!“), here’s a random rant on a show that EVERYONE’s been crazy about since last year, but I’ve not been giving much attention here at Tondemo Nothing!- everyone’s favourite trainwreck, Code Geass!

(Oh and if you’re reading a Code Geass post without expecting spoilers… You’re disillusioned my friend)

Apparently I’ll make some people angry by mislabelling the show with a term that has ‘wreck’ in it. Boo-hoo

Lest you start making assumptions about the nature of this post, I’ll just state flat out that neither am I going to bash Code Geass for being or not being a Sunrise trainwreck, nor am I going to start rambling incoherently about how awesomely awesomesauce it is. I’m sure if I gave it some thought, I’ll probably learn to see actual merits of the show’s engrossing(?) mix of epic winfail storytelling (I didn’t just type that with a straight face on…) and a nauseating amount of pandering elements for just about anyone who wants to be pandered to here. That or Ifind that it’s really just a pile of time-wasting excuse for a story and CLAMP artwork. *shrugs*

Here’s the deal, though Code Geass entertains the hell out of me every week with its outlandish outlandishness (when in doubt, repeat words to sounds like an idiot smart) it really makes no difference to me whether this show exists or not - yes it’s all good fun and all to watch, but if I were to suddenly stop watching it and continue on with ‘life’ (i.e. watching other shows but this one), the only thing I’ll actually feel like I’m missing would be the lulz reaction posts from every other blogger out there about the latest WTF episode.

Am I just tired of this show? Definitely not (okay maybe just a little. I mean, who do they have left to kill now?). But does it leave me wanting more each week? Strangely, not either. Perhaps because every episode is already a condensed trainwreck upon itself dose of sheer senseless entertainment, I really don’t appreciate the ‘continuity’ of the series (wait, someone remind me was there any to begin with?). Or maybe I just can’t ‘appreciate’ a show I watch with my brain turned off anymore…

That and there seems to be a tendency for fans to start pairing Lulu (I don’t bother remembering how to spell his real name) up with any of the possible haremettes he has under his cape (If I’m not allowed to call it a trainwreck, can I at least use ‘bizzaro harem’?) and then getting pissy when said character doesn’t get enough screentime (because there’s so many of them!). Again, Lulu can end up with C.C./Kallen/Suzaku/Orange/Charles/Rollo’s dead body (oops) for all I care, so long as the show stays WTFBBQ lulz-worthy entertaining enough till the end. That and so long as show

OMG, I actually cared more about Rollo dying than Shirley. Using the word ‘care’ loosely of course.

Anyways, tl;dr, point is, Code Geass, I still love you and all (really, I do! I think), but sorry, you haven’t exactly turned me into the rabid fanboy/fangirl nearly everyone else I know who watches this show is.
